The Power of Imperfection

So much is bubbling up right now–inside and out! In this year of 2020 vision, “seeing” is taking on an entirely new meaning. Our non-judgment is being tested in ways we never thought possible. I find myself turning to the Universe asking,

You want me to accept what?

How could this be the Universe working perfectly?

Seriously, there’s more?!

And yet, I remember with each new breath that the Universe does not send us anything we cannot handle–that nothing is happening that is not for our highest learning, growth, or understanding.

We’re in the PhD program of learning to Love, and these exams are brutal

Through this quarantine time coupled with uprising, shadows, and paradox I find myself shipped out to sea in the new ocean of the both/and with nothing but a compass and a fearless heart. I am being forced out of the cage of judgment and into the freedom of radical acceptance. Ways of black/white thinking (this phrase is taking on a whole new meaning!), and either/or decisions are becoming so painful that I am deliberately looking for a new way to see. I find my heart actively searching for relief from my own stubborn judgment. It’s saying,

“Thinking the world ‘should be different’ is too exhausting. I can’t live like this. There has to be another way!”

So we learn to love the unlovable–and it started with the unlovable me. I practice this in any and all ways that I can. This quarantine time has become my sandbox for imperfection–to let me play with what it feels like to do it wrong, to see it both ways, to hold space for love and joy and pain and disgust–even when it’s messy. To build trust with the Universe.

This was my last egg. I’m running late. I still can’t find the matching sock.

This is all hilariously true. Now turn that camera around and giggle to remember the absurdity!

I didn’t shave my legs. I want to wear shorts to the store today. I will feel embarrassed if someone notices.

I’m going to let it all be true. (Attention, shoppers!)

I don’t want to go to this event. They will be disappointed when I don’t show up. They might judge me.

I’m going to let it all be true.

I don’t understand where this person is coming from. I enjoy our time together and I love them.

I’m going to let it all be true.

Every moment that I choose it all, that I “let myself down” by “failing” my idea of “perfect,” I am also given the opportunity to hear the whisper from deep within myself and from the Universe,

“It’s all true, and I still love you.”

I don’t mean to test Love like that, but MAN does the Universe love us if we let it! This is how trust is built. With ourselves, with one-another, and with the world. The more I forgive myself, the more the Universe forgives me and the more I forgive others. The more I mess up and choose to love me anyways, the more I am free to love others when they mess up too.

And the paradox? I always achieve and attract more when I do this.

The two most common phrases I hear in my coaching sessions are:

“Wow, I didn’t think I was judgmental, but I guess I am!”

“I’ve never considered myself a victim, but I guess I do feel like one.”

It’s natural, it’s normal, and best of all these thoughts are here to heal you.

If you’re looking for freedom from judgment, wondering where the light will come from, or questioning what’s next–try out imperfection. The answer may be lingering right behind your judgment!

I dare you to do something imperfect this week–and love. every. second.

My session with Kelsey was profoundly impactful. She helped me get underneath what I thought was important to me and down into the core of what I KNOW to be important and true. She held my hand down a labyrinth helping me work my way out of my head and into my heart (where the true meaning lies) and then back to my head to help me align my new vision and intuitions with my priorities and life code. She managed this through sincere and heartfelt listening and intentional questions. She prompted me through a stream of consciousness that was from ME (she did not impose her own beliefs but respected mine) and allowed me to develop in my own way- the way I was meant to.  All this in 45 minutes. WOW! See for yourself what you may discover with a safe, trained listener by your side! Thank you Kelsey!

Stop Feeling Lost and Out Of Control

Who do you want to be?

Do you know the answer to that question; could you tell someone? And if you do know who you want to be, do you believe that you have the power within you to become that person? Do you feel stuck and unable to make changes? This is the perfect time to become the person you truly want to be – to be your authentic and powerful self. (Every day is the perfect opportunity.)

Without the self-confidence to back you up, you feel lost and out of control. You don’t even go after your goals because you think to yourself, “What’s the point in even starting…I don’t know what to do first…”

All of that is normal.

Our negative thoughts are like water…creeping into every open space in our brain, drowning positivity out so that self-love feels impossible.

Is every positive thought you have about yourself followed by a thought telling you that you’re not good enough…stopping you in your tracks?

News Flash: Your life doesn’t have to be this way. You do have the power to take control now. It all starts from within.

Allow yourself some peace and quiet while you decide who you want to be. Don’t just think about the steps below, get writing:

  1. First, what do you love about your life? What are you grateful for? Who loves you unconditionally? (Consider beginning each day with grateful thoughts.)
  2. How can you do more of #1? How can you give more of your attention to what’s working well for you?
  3. What do you wish to change about yourself, about your thoughts, about your life?
  4. What is just one thought or one action that you can do today to move in the direction of the life you want? Don’t worry about the ending right now or the huge, lofty goal in front of you – just one small step. (Oftentimes, we get overwhelmed in this moment. Notice whatever is coming up for you, accept it as a part of you, and yet decide to continue on this new path even when your mind tries to stop you.)
  5. Notice your thoughts right now. What’s happening and how do your thoughts make you feel? Do you need a new mantra to insert right here to push out the bad thoughts? Do it…what’s your new mantra? (I am powerful, I am enough, I am love, I am growth, etc.)

Do this everyday. Just one small action. Just one new, positive thought about yourself. Put your mantra as your phone screen or in your calendar to remind you during the day. This is a new habit for you and it will take time. Decide that even on a day when you fail, you’ll get back up and start again the next day. You are developing a new muscle.

Have fun. Allow for spontaneity. Enjoy the journey. Everyone has the power to be the person they dream to be, especially you.

“What you seek is seeking you” by Rumi.

I said this to a client the other day as we were closing our session.  We were speaking about showing up as our authentic selves, and the ability to trust that everything happens for our highest good, to trust that if we keep doing the work and taking the actions to move closer towards the vision of the woman we want to be, that things will work out the way they are meant to.

Now this is where the magic happened…  my client wrote me an email moments after our session to tell me what she had taken notes and wrote down Rumi’s quote …  but instead had written “You are seeking YOU!”  I mean, how profound?!?!?  Because, to do all of the above, we need to connect with ourselves, to trust ourselves, to listen to our intuition, to allow it to guide us.

As I continue to do “the work”, which is comprised of personal development, self discovery, becoming the most truest version of myself, and to strive to be the woman in the vision, the theme that rings most loud and true is that what we are seeking, is really to be the truest, most honest, most confident, and happiest version of ourselves.  Anything less than honoring ourselves is betraying ourselves, and I am just not available for that anymore!

Too often we look outside ourselves for answers, we compare ourselves to others, we get caught in consumption of all things that distract us from connecting to ourselves which leads us to feeling out of alignment to our values, goals and visions.  In reality, we need to look within.  The answers are all there.  I recently read, “hearing the voice inside is NOT the super power.

Having the confidence to act on the voice IS the superpower!”

It is a process, the work never ends.  But with practice, and building new habits and beliefs to support you in living the life you truly want to live and how you want to feel is so powerful and truly transformative.  Some tips on how to lean into this …

  1. Slow down and listen for your inner voice, take time to tune in
  2. Trust the process, limit the need to control the outcome.  Live in the moment.
  3. Follow your joy, do more of makes you happy
  4. Be open to possibilities, open mind open heart

Stay the course, embrace who you are and trust that you are on the right path.  Want to learn more about how to lean into these concepts and create new habits to transform your life?  Set up a free discovery call with me and let’s make some magic!

When My Son Leaves House…

While my son has not lived in my house for many years, I don’t fear when he leaves his house. My son is gay, and we are Jewish, but he grew up in an area where this was largely tolerated and to some level, accepted. When he left to go to college, he also selected a school that was very accepting on every account. Still, I worried. Then, he moved to other cities – Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and LA – all generally accepting cities. But still, I worried.

Because mothers do worry. We worry that you will make bad choices, you will drink too much, do drugs that will have a deadly side effect, that you will go home with someone you shouldn’t have gone home with…. And, I also have a beautiful daughter, but today is not the day to ramble on about how much I worry about her safety. But trust me, I will on another day because being a woman in America has its own set of challenges.

But, for the most part, I do not worry about either of them coming home. For the most part, I do not worry about him getting pulled over by the cops while jogging, birdwatching, driving, crossing the street, entering his home, or even being in his home, shopping, walking, talking, or getting killed in public. By.the.police.

This is unimaginable and unthinkable to me. And, every pore in my body is angry at a system that treats and has treated our black sons so ruthlessly. I can’t hug my children because they are not with me and also because of COVID. But I know I will hug them again.

Many black mothers will never hug their sons again. And for this, I am desperately worried. I worry that I am not doing enough and that the initial flames of outrage will burn out too quickly. And frankly, this worries me most of all.

Creating Change and Building Healthy Habits

Save this image and share it on your Instagram. Use #HCCQOTD so we can find you!

How many times have you tried to instill a new habit for yourself?

Maybe you want to get up and exercise before work, drink more water, take the stairs more, not eat out or save more money. If you are like most, your list is likely long and feels a bit overwhelming.

Creating change and building healthy habits starts with an understanding of your awareness.

Before we can make any change, we need to get really curious about what we might be saying or doing that isn’t serving us. What stories are on constant repeat? We might also have a belief system that was instilled in us while growing up and it is now influencing us to make these new changes.

All change needs to have some motivation behind it.

In order to have motivations, you need to understand your personal behaviors as well. And our behaviors have all been influenced by one of six areas: spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, social and environmental.

Understanding where and why the influence is occurring can be the difference in achieving or detracting you from making the new change or habit. And for most of us, we haven’t taken the time to dig in and understand why this influence is not serving us.

Once we dig in, the odds of the change sticking are greater.

On June 11 and June 14, Tracy Hensel and I will be hosting an interactive workshop where we will start to dig into how you can create the change you desire and build new habits. From there, I will be offering a seven-week class where we take a deeper dive into our influencers. We will declare a change or habit we want to make for ourselves based on our new learnings. We are better together and with group support, your level of success just increased!

To sign up for the June 11 or June 14 one-hour class, click HERE. If you still have more questions or want to connect, I offer a complimentary 15-minute call. Click HERE to head to my scheduler.

Starting June 16th, I am also offering a 4-week book club featuring the amazing book Untamed by Glennon Doyle! Each week, we will dive into a section of the book and discuss what we’ve read. We will combine this book along with some group coaching for a life-changing experience.

I will be offering a morning session and an evening session and spaces ARE LIMITED!

So join me and let’s start creating change in out lives!
